Sheikh Nurein was born in Barawa where he received all his islamic knowledge. He was born from the Hatimi clan (major clan in Barawa), and a follower of the Ahmadiyah Tariqah (Sufi Tariqa). He studied religious science and Fiqh (Jurisprudence). The ruling reign at that time in Barawa was Sultan Barghash of Zanzibar, he appointed him as the Chief Qadhi (Jurist) of Barawa. Upon being a jurist, he went and trained many students in Barawa to become scholars and teachers.
