Gamedle (Somali: Gaameedle Arabic: جامدل) are a Benadiri/12 Koofi clan mainly from the southern coastal cities of; Marka[1] and Mogadishu.[2]
Overview
The Gamedle clan are said to be of Hadrami ancestry according to their elders and are said to be Ba Hamdani in origin.[3] Prior to colonisation, the Gameedle were known to have ruled Marka and were allied with the Ajuuran clan who had ruled Marka’s hinterlands for 2 centuries before the Bimaal’s took over the area outside the city.[4] Near their mosque, in the heart of the ancient city, there is the ruin of a palace that is said to have been the seat of Wakil Samo Nayb, the last governor of Ajuuran theocracy.[3]
