The purpose of this paper is to take a first glance at a few East African collections that contain Swahili manuscripts written in Arabic script. This research project is one among 19 subprojects being carried out by the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) of the University of Hamburg and supported by the German Research foundation.
